PADI Instructor Training Courses are professional development programs designed for experienced divers who aspire to build a career in the diving industry. These courses help participants develop both theoretical knowledge and practical teaching skills on their journey to becoming certified scuba instructors. As the world's most recognized and respected diving certification agency, PADI trains leaders who are qualified to teach diving at the highest standards.
PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC):
The IDC is the first step toward becoming a scuba instructor. It covers essential topics such as dive theory, teaching techniques, safety procedures, how the PADI system works, and the core skills required for training student divers.
PADI Instructor Examination (IE):
After completing the IDC, candidates must pass the Instructor Examination (IE) to become certified as a PADI Instructor. This evaluation tests your teaching skills, dive theory knowledge, and your ability to conduct sessions both in confined and open water. Upon successful completion, you will earn the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI)certification.
PADI Specialty Instructor Courses:
Once certified as an instructor, you can broaden your teaching abilities by becoming a specialist in specific diving areas such as Night Diving, Deep Diving, Wreck Diving, Search & Recovery, and Underwater Navigation. These specialties allow you to expand your offerings and appeal to a wider range of students.
PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT):
The next milestone in your instructor career is achieving the MSDT rating, which requires certifying at least 25 students and holding five PADI Specialty Instructor ratings. This level reflects deeper experience and greater responsibility as a professional dive educator.
PADI Course Director:
The highest professional level in the PADI system is Course Director. These elite professionals are authorized to train future instructors. The Course Director Training Course (CDTC) is available by invitation only and provides in-depth knowledge of instructor development and leadership in the diving industry.
The PADI Instructor Development Course typically takes 10–12 days to complete. The exact duration may vary depending on the candidate’s experience and pace.
PADI Divemaster certification
Minimum age: 18 years
At least 100 logged dives before enrolling in the IDC
Current First Aid and CPR training (PADI Emergency First Response or equivalent)
Good physical health and fitness for diving
Upon successful completion of the IDC and IE, participants earn the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI)certification. As you progress in your career, you can achieve further credentials such as PADI Specialty Instructor, Master Scuba Diver Trainer, and PADI Course Director.
